PTA conducts its work in support of every child, through advocacy

PTA has a long history of advocacy. At our inception we fought successfully for child labor laws that would keep children in school and now continue to actively speak up for children and public education, before school boards, state legislatures and the United States Congress.

PTA represents the grassroots. Our members advocacy efforts are the most powerful voices that can speak up on behalf of children. We speak for those who have no voice or representation.

Advocacy on behalf of children should be an integral part of every PTA. PTA provides a myriad of resources to help local units be effective advocates.

PTA advocates through action

We encourage all local unit PTA/PTSAs to keep a close eye on the legislature and take action on the issues, when PTA sends out information and action alerts. Public policy is often developed without benefit of input from the public education community. Legislators and policy makers frequently have little or no knowledge of public education. PTA is a powerful voice for children and we need to make ourselves heard by the policy makers.

BCCPTA/PTSA meets with members of the Broward County Delegation throughout the year. We encourage local units to also meet with legislators while they are home in their districts.
