Nomination & Election of Broward County Council of PTA/PTSAs Officers for 2024-2026
The Nominations Committee will be elected at the 3rd General Meeting and will consider all eligible candidates for the upcoming term of office. A Slate of Officers will be published 30 days prior to the Board Election held during the 4th General Meeting. All nominations for the Slate of Officers must be submitted by 11:59pm on Friday, March 15, 2024.

On behalf of the Nominating Committee, the following Slate of Officers for the Executive Board is presented for the association's consideration.

What is the Nominating Committee?
The purpose of the nominating committee is to recognize and seek qualified nominees for the elected leadership of the PTA. This committee is elected by the membership at least one month prior to the election of officers. The annual election of officers for the Broward County Council of PTA/PTSAs will be held on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at the general council meeting.
The Nominating Committee will be working to put together a slate of officers who will represent Broward County Council of PTA/PTSAs during the 2024-2026 school years. All local units are invited and encouraged to participate in the nomination and election process.
PLEASE complete the attached: Letter of Interest Form and provide biography with brief history as a PTA member, photo, and email to nominations@browardptsa.org on or before 11:59 PM on Saturday, March 15, 2024. The nominee must:
Give their consent
Be willing to carry out the duties of the office for a one two-year term (descriptions attached)
Be willing to work as a team member to advocate for children
Be a PTA/PTSA member from a unit that is in compliance with Broward PTA/PTSA and Florida PTA
The purpose of this County Council of Parent Teacher Associations and Parent-Teacher Student- Associations are to promote the Objects of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, which are:
To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, places of worship, and throughout the community;
To raise the standards of home life;
To advocate for laws that further the education, physical and mental health, welfare, and safety of children and youth;
To promote the collaboration and engagement of families and educators in the education of children and youth;
To engage the public in united efforts to secure the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of all children and youth; and
To advocate for fiscal responsibility regarding public tax dollars in public education funding.

These officers are vital to the success of PTA in our county. The following positions are open for nomination:
Broward County Council of PTA/PTSAs Officer Positions and their Duties
In the execution of their duties as set forth in our bylaws, elected officers shall be guided by the parliamentary authority and any rules adopted by either the Board of Directors or the General Assembly.
President: Presides at all meetings; works with the Treasurer to maintain fiscal responsibility of the organization; serves on the Florida PTA Board of Directors, an ex-officio member of all council committees except the nominating committee; appoints members of special committees and a parliamentarian in accordance with our bylaws; represents the council at Broward County Public School System and with other organizations; as well as any other duties as identified in the organization's policies and procedures.
First Vice President: Serves as aide to the president, in the absence of the president fulfills the duties of that office; maintain a file of local unit bylaws; serve as presenter for meditations given at each council meeting, writer and distributor of the BCCPTA/PTSA Handbook; oversee Council programs (presentations, speakers, or workshops for meetings), special projects/committees as assigned by the President or Executive Board; attend FPTA Convention/Leadership Conference/Legislative Conference and serving as delegation leader.
VP for Leadership: Coordinates and reports on the work of the Area Coordinators and performs such other duties as may be assigned by the president; coordinates council support initiatives for local unit development and management; assist the President with the development of new local units; maintain council records of local units (Local Unit New/Returning Officers Registration Forms).
VP for Education: Coordinates and monitors the work of the committees on education, as assigned by the president; assist the President with coordinating council leadership development; coordinate council’s local unit leadership development and training initiatives.
VP for Organization: Coordinates and monitors the work of the committees on organization, as assigned by the president; coordinate and maintain internal communication channels; support and coordinate committee communication materials (social media posts, flyers, notices, etc.); organize and maintain the council's web page and electronic document storage.
Recording Secretary: Records minutes of all meetings, forwarding a copy to the president within 2 to 3 days after said meeting; record attendance for all council and executive board meetings; notify the president of any unfinished business no later than 2 weeks following each meeting; provide ballots, tellers, report forms and motion forms when necessary; keep the state approved copy of the BCCPTA/PTSA bylaws in the permanent records and provide copies to all board members; provide a report of the minutes from like meeting to like meeting and distribute copies to all present; retrieve BCCPTA/PTSA office messages and distribute appropriately.
Treasurer: Acts as custodian of all funds; instruct board members on expense policies; keep the Executive Board advised concerning monies available for field service programs and other pertinent information; serve as person responsible for Budget, Preparing a monthly financial report for the Executive Board meeting (The financial report may be presented by the President in the absence of the Treasurer), send All Local Unit’s a BCCPTA Invoice for Council Dues, approving expense reports submitted by the president, reimbursing operational expenses, preparing books and arranging for the annual audit, adhering to the budget, being apprised of state and federal tax laws applicable to PTA and providing information to local units upon request, life memberships, present a Financial statement at all council and Executive Board meetings, reconciling accounts monthly, maintaining the currency of the council’s Federal ID number and its sales tax exemption certificates, producing, maintaining and distributing information packets and forms detailing the process of obtaining EIN and Sales Tax Exemption Certificates to new units, receiving and receipting to event chair all monies deriving from any council function producing revenue and providing initial “bank” where necessary, meeting all required fiscal deadlines, such as dues, state events, etc.; oversee the collection of money for all events. Funds shall be double-counted by non-Treasurer (Funds must be deposited within 48 hours after receipting); pay approved bills within 48 hours with the President’s approval.
The newly elected officers shall meet at the call of the president within thirty days of their election to create standing committees and to select a chair for each.
